![]() Installing a few of these in high kid-traffic areas has been WELL worth it! Thanks for a great product. ![]() It's very easy to plug things in, and take them out, but the baby doesn't even mess with these outlets anymore because the thrill of death is beyond his tiny finger strength. The amount of force needed to slide the plate over to use is more than a toddler can muster, but not hard for an adult. For the outlets that were the kiddo's 'favorites' to try to bust into, these are SO GOOD. I bought a four-pack of these covers and they are AMAZING! They're easy to install (just don't forget the little plastic spacer between the actual bare outlet and the back of the cover) and SO MUCH BETTER than the cheap plastic covers. My kiddo is determined to stick anything and everything he can into outlets and wants so badly to peel the individual outlet covers off. ![]() Promising review: "We have been behind the curve on babyproofing and bought a big pack of the plastic two-prong outlet covers. It was expensive, the replacement filters are expensive, it is a pain in the petunias to replace the filters, and the flow rate is pathetic! But guess what! Our water from this filter tastes just as good as theirs at a fraction of the price, plus it's way more convenient, plus the flow rate is way better. My parents have a three-chambered, name brand filter at their house. The flow on this thing is just amazing! And the water tastes great! Don't waste your money on the expensive, complicated ones. From an evolutionary perspective, a more complex structure such as the inverted retina can generally come about as a consequence of two alternate processes - an advantageous "good" compromise between competing functional limitations, or as a historical maladaptive relic of the convoluted path of organ evolution and transformation. This difference suggests that vertebrate and cephalopod eyes are not homologous, but have evolved separately. The cephalopod retina does not originate as an outgrowth of the brain, as the vertebrate one does. Having easily replaced stalk eyes (some lobsters) or retinae (some spiders, such as Deinopis ) rarely occurs. Although their photoreceptors contain a protein, retinochrome, that recycles retinal and replicates one of the functions of the vertebrate RPE, cephalopod photoreceptors are likely not maintained as well as in vertebrates, and that as a result, the useful lifetime of photoreceptors in invertebrates is much shorter than in vertebrates. Squid eyes do not have an analog of the vertebrate retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The cephalopods have a non-inverted retina, which is comparable in resolving power to the eyes of many vertebrates. This area, termed the fovea centralis, is avascular (does not have blood vessels), and has minimal neural tissue in front of the photoreceptors, thereby minimizing light scattering. Some vertebrates, including humans, have an area of the central retina adapted for high-acuity vision. Because of this, cephalopods do not have a blind spot.Īlthough the overlying neural tissue is partly transparent, and the accompanying glial cells have been shown to act as fibre-optic channels to transport photons directly to the photoreceptors, light scattering does occur. In contrast, in the cephalopod retina, the photoreceptors are in front, with processing neurons and capillaries behind them. No photoreceptors are in this region, giving rise to the blind spot. The ganglion cells, whose axons form the optic nerve, are at the front of the retina therefore, the optic nerve must cross through the retina en route to the brain. The vertebrate retina is inverted in the sense that the light-sensing cells are in the back of the retina, so that light has to pass through layers of neurons and capillaries before it reaches the photosensitive sections of the rods and cones. Structure Inverted versus non-inverted retina The retina is the part of the body with the greatest continuous energy demand. Like most of the brain, the retina is isolated from the vascular system by the blood–brain barrier. It is the only part of the CNS that can be visualized noninvasively. In vertebrate embryonic development, the retina and the optic nerve originate as outgrowths of the developing brain, specifically the embryonic diencephalon thus, the retina is considered part of the central nervous system (CNS) and is actually brain tissue. Neural signals from the rods and cones undergo processing by other neurons, whose output takes the form of action potentials in retinal ganglion cells whose axons form the optic nerve. Light striking the retina initiates a cascade of chemical and electrical events that ultimately trigger nerve impulses that are sent to various visual centres of the brain through the fibres of the optic nerve. A third type of light-sensing cell, the photosensitive ganglion cell, is important for entrainment of circadian rhythms and reflexive responses such as the pupillary light reflex. Cones function in well-lit conditions and are responsible for the perception of colour through the use of a range of opsins, as well as high-acuity vision used for tasks such as reading. ![]() Rods function mainly in dim light and provide monochromatic vision. The primary light-sensing cells in the retina are the photoreceptor cells, which are of two types: rods and cones. The neural retina consists of several layers of neurons interconnected by synapses and is supported by an outer layer of pigmented epithelial cells. The retina serves a function which is in many ways analogous to that of the film or image sensor in a camera. The optics of the eye create a focused two-dimensional image of the visual world on the retina, which then processes that image within the retina and sends nerve impulses along the optic nerve to the visual cortex to create visual perception. The retina (from Latin: rete "net" PL: retinae or retinas) is the innermost, light-sensitive layer of tissue of the eye of most vertebrates and some molluscs. Having used the MSR Ascent bindings personally, I do not slip when I'm going up and downhill. Many other snowshoes on the market are using aluminum, which bends. The aggressive toe treads are carbide steel, which is really strong. This prevents your feet from getting all mangled when you're on the trail. That nice honeycomb shape for the foot binding really spreads out the pressure points. Men's usually from about 25 inch to about 30 inch, and then you can add tails onto them to increase the volume with the MSR Lightning Ascent. If you want to go faster, this snowshoe does it. This one saves a lot of weight in your feet. These are ideal for longer duration snowshoes, or if you want to do multi days. When we move on to the MSR Lightning Ascent, the weight gets a lot lighter. It has an aggressive tread, which makes it a little bit heavier. The MSR Revo is a really good all around snowshoe. When you're going up steep hills, the Revo has the lift bar to flatten that angle up for you. The Ascent snowshoe binding is also a very easy binding to put on. The binding found on the MSR Revo Ascent and Lightning Ascent really alleviates pressure in the toe box by spreading it out over this honeycomb pattern on the forefoot part of the binding. ![]() With other snowshoes, you can get pressure points in your forefoot. The Ascent binding is designed to relieve pressure points on the foot. ![]() This tread provides excellent grip for going uphill and downhill. It’s a really aggressive crampon binding, so it helps you dig in the very aggressive tread on the side frame. The binding is really designed for extended trips. What makes this series is the binding and the lift bar in the back. |
